Woking Planetarium is the only state school owned planetarium in the UK, and it’s open to the public. With regular shows for all the family, experience an immersive 360ᵒ look at the cosmos, and much more besides! Our shows aim to explore the night sky in a fun and engaging way. You can even tailor them to your specific interests in the case of external hire! Read on to find out what’s on offer and what you can expect.
What is a planetarium?
With the use of Digitarium technology, our planetarium can show you the night sky anywhere from the Australian outback to your own back garden. You can fly through space and even beyond our own galaxy! All this is shown above and around you on a 360° screen, just like the real sky. Our presenter is in full control, using images and data from real scientific research, brought to you in live presentations that change with the sky. With 5.1 surround sound and 2k graphics, our full dome films are another way you can experience the magic of the cosmos. See individual show pages for more information on show content. While age guidance can vary, our shows are fun for all the family.
Please note the planetarium is NOT suitable for those with sensitivity to flashing lights or dizzying motion. Please let us know in advance if you have any accessibility needs.
Hire the planetarium
In addition to our public shows, the planetarium is available for hire to groups and businesses. Our spacious Discovery Space library and activity area is a perfect venue for your next meeting, social or conference, enhanced with a presentation inside the dome. We also cater for children’s groups and school visits. With your input, we will tailor the whole experience to your needs and interests, so don’t be afraid to get in touch!
