Satellite Launches
- LAUNCH SUCCESS 3rd: The Small Spacecraft Mission Service (SSMS) Proof of Concept mission launches aboard an Arianespace Vega rocket from Kourou in French Guiana at 02:51 BST. It will contain around 50 microsatellites, nanosatellites and CubeSats for various customers. Delayed from August 2019, September 10th and February 2020. Delayed from March 23rd due to coronavirus outbreak. Delayed from June 18th due to unfavourable high-altitude winds. Scrubbed on June 27th and June 28th due to high-altitude winds. Delayed from August 17th. Delayed from September 1st as Typhoon Maysak threatened Jeju ground station.
- LAUNCH SUCCESS 3rd: The 12th batch of around 60 Starlink satellites is launched on the Starlink 11 mission. The addition to SpaceX‘s broadband network will launch aboard a Falcon 9 rocket from Cape Canaveral. Delayed from August 29th and September 1st.
- LAUNCH SUCCESS 7th: The second Gaofen 11-series Earth observation satellite is launched by China aboard a Long March 4B rocket. It will launch at 05:57 GMT from Taiyun, China.
- LAUNCH FAILURE 12th: The Chinese Jilin 1 Gaoten 02C Earth observation satellite will be launched for Chang Guang Satellite Technology Co. Ltd. It will launch aboard a Kuaizhou 1A rocket from Jiuquan, China at 06:02 BST.
- LAUNCH SUCCESS 15th: A Chinese Long March 11H rocket launches nine Jilin 1 Earth observation satellites for Chang Guang Satellite Technology Co. Ltd. They will launch from an ocean-going platform in the Yellow Sea at 02:23 BST.
- LAUNCH SUCCESS 21st: China launch their Haiyang 2C oceanography satellite aboard a Long March 4B rocket from Jiuquan, China. It will launch at 06:40 BST.
- LAUNCH SUCCESS 27th: The Huanjing 2A & 2B satellites, described as environmental monitoring satellites, launch from Taiyun, China. They will launch aboard a Chinese Long March 4B rocket at 04:23 BST.
- LAUNCH SUCCESS 28th: 3 Gonets M communication satellites are launched aboard a Soyuz rocket for the Russian government. They will launch from the Plesetsk Cosmodrome in Russia at 12:20 BST. Moved forward from September 29th. Delayed from September 24th.
Test Flights
- LAUNCH SUCCESS 4th: A Chinese Long March 2F rocket launches a Reusable Test Spacecraft from Jiuquan, China at 08:30 BST. Possibly a winged spaceplane, the craft landed back on Earth 2 days later.
- LAUNCH FAILURE 11th: Astra‘s small satellite launch vehicle, named Rocket 3.1, will attempt its first orbital flight. Launched from the Pacific Spaceport Complex on Kodiak Island, Alaska, there will be no payload on this flight. The launch window is 03:00 to 05:30 BST. Scrubbed on August 3rd due to upper level winds and a boat being in range, and again on August 5th and August 7th. Delayed from August 30th due to poor weather.
